I wouldn't mind having the story of my life treated as such... That would be really fun!

TeresaTeresahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12831169405732892599noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3607441034503290367.post-59890325040792039042009-06-23T12:39:18.439-07:002009-06-23T12:39:18.439-07:00Ah, the plot thickens! Gary Snyder, for example: the complete immersion, just a whisper of old self still whispering, and then re-emergence...murat11https://www.blogger.com/profile/00663364407992075130noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3607441034503290367.post-37159535262346197972009-02-28T20:01:00.000-08:002009-02-28T20:01:00.000-08:00Thanks for the vote of confidence, Linda. The difference was not so pronounced when I was learning Spanish and German in school, probably because they are culturally similar to English.Teresahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12831169405732892599noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3607441034503290367.post-66844070782321925322009-02-28T19:42:00.000-08:002009-02-28T19:42:00.000-08:00I've heard total immersion is the best way to lear...I've heard total immersion is the best way to learn a language, but I never thought of the cultural implications or how it would change your mindset. In Chinese I would call you 犬女 or "dog-faced daughter" so you wouldn't get a swelled head, but in America speaking English if I call you names, it might get me reported for child abuse, so I have to call you "darling". You know my heart is always skewed towards you <3Teresahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12831169405732892599noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3607441034503290367.post-21420679791438238312009-02-24T21:16:00.000-08:002009-02-24T21:16:00.000-08:00oops. you slipped up, mother dear. you called us "...oops. you slipped up, mother dear. you called us "darling" to the public.
